From Streets to Swells
“When I stand up on a wave I feel like I can stand up for myself in life.”
When Babacar Thiaw paddles out each Saturday, more than 60 talibé¹ boys trade the bustle of Dakar’s streets for the freedom of the Atlantic. Your gift puts a board in a boy’s hands, a book in his backpack, and hope in his heart.
¹ Talibé are children living on the streets of Senegal’s cities, often without consistent access to food, education, or family support.
Surf as sanctuary – A single board shared by five boys can keep them off the streets for hours and teach discipline, confidence, and teamwork.
Education as engine – Weekly tutoring and school fees help the boys re-enter formal classrooms or vocational programs.
Community as family – Hot meals, first-aid, and consistent mentorship show each child he is seen, safe, and valued.
